We introduced these initially for those of you who want to IRS a bus for speed and fuel economy but who want to retain stock height on their bus. If you do this you will need to use VW Type 4 Variant, Porsche 924/944 or VW 181 “Thing” CV joints. This is because they can travel to a maximum angle of 22 degrees whereas the Bug CV,s joints max out at 12 degrees and therefore cannot cope with the angle of the drive shafts that stock height produces.
These Spring plates are also ideal when lowering 3-4″ on Early buses as it makes wheel removal easier than a kicked up plate.
We had an original VW spring plate analysed for material contact and tensile strength before selecting the modern day equivalent. We then laser cut the material for accuracy. A CNC machined broached boss is then TIG welded into the spring plate. Take a look at the quality of welding its a work of art ! Adjustors allow careful dialling in of wheel clearance after fitment. Features handbrake cable hole for stock cable use. Supplied with new rubber donuts and packing spacers.
